The Corvette was introduced in 1953 and has been in continuous production ever since. It was created as an economical
sports car for young adults. There have been slow and steady changes over the years but the basic original design, fiberglass
body and big V8 engines have persisted. Although Chryslerís 300B of 1956 was the first car to achieve the magic of producing
one horsepower for each cubic inch of engine displacement, this 1957 Corvette with ram-jet fuel injection produces 283 horsepower
from its 283 cubic inch engine. The carís basic price was $3,465 but the ram-jet fuel injection system added another $675. In 1957
Chevrolet sold 6,339 Corvettes.
